Fall is the season of change, and the makeup looks from the Fall 2019 Fashion Week earlier this year undoubtedly channeled this into the unique and innovative makeup looks that walked the runways, setting trends for September. From natural and radiant skin to sharp, dark eyes, the makeup trends following us into fall this year are more diverse than ever. These fall makeup trends are basic, daring and striking, and all absolutely unmissable.
1. Dewy Skin
No matter what season, no-makeup makeup is always in style. This year, the 2019 Fall Marc Jacobs show abandoned their famously unexpected and avant-garde looks to reinforce this message, instead of showing uncharacteristically restrained natural and dewy makeup looks on the runway. So this fall it’s all about achieving that notoriously delicate balance between a bronzed summer glow whilst still looking natural – which isn’t that easy under the grey skies of autumn weather.
This season, strive for a look of radiance and hydration rather than trying to artificially recreate your summer skin. Rely on brightening primers and dewy concealers rather than mattifying foundations and powders to get a naturally clear and radiant look for the fall.
2. Velvety Eyes
Tom Ford’s velvety eye makeup has undoubtedly set a trend for this fall. A refined blend of browns and mauves worn by models Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls defined the eyes and created a similar, but softer, alternative to the usual smoky eye fall makeup. Velvet eyes are dark yet soft, sophisticated yet effortless, making them the perfect fall look this year. The deliberate blurred and smudged look of this eye makeup makes it especially easy to recreate for yourself.
3. Baby Pink
A surprising colour for fall, baby pink appeared on the runways of Veronica Beard’s show and fit in like it should have always been there. Baby pink, whether it’s lips, eyes or cheeks, creates a natural and delicate look that challenges the traditional reds and browns of fall. Usually confined to spring and summer, baby pink makeup looks are beginning to step out of these restraints this fall, bringing a new dimension to autumnal makeup.
4. Shiny Smoky Eye
As expected, the anticipated smoky eye looks returned to the runways in the Fall 2019 shows, but not without an innovative alteration. Whilst retaining its classically dark and smouldering look, the smoky eye became simultaneously glossy and shiny. The Prabal Gurung show mastered this look with its dark, glossy eyes that channeled the traditional smoky eye look with an unexpected shine. Recreate the shiny smoky eye this fall by simply brushing an eye gloss over a denser eyeshadow.
5. Graphic Eyes
The geometric, graphic eye makeup looks, reminiscent of the sixties are a returning makeup trend this fall. The Dior show exhibited looks similar to the Twiggy lower lid vertical lines, whilst other makeup artists experimented with this look, drawing shapes from the closely lined lid. Graphic eyes are the perfect opportunity to experiment more creatively with your makeup and try out runway looks for yourself. These modern takes on an old look transform a basic eyeliner into a unique and courageous look that definitely cannot be missed this fall.
